How to Use Millie
From speech to clipboard in a few seconds
1. Start dictation
Press the global shortcut — Right ⌘ by default — from any app. You don't need to bring Millie to the front first; the shortcut works system-wide. You can change it to any key combination you like from Millie's Preferences.
2. Speak naturally
Talk as you normally would. Millie transcribes on-device as you go, so there's no waiting once you stop.
3. Stop dictation
Press the same shortcut again to stop, or turn on Smart Auto-Start & Auto-Stop in Preferences so Millie starts listening the moment you begin speaking and stops automatically once you go quiet — fully hands-free.
How long "quiet" has to last is up to you. The Auto-stop detection delay slider in Preferences runs from 0.6 s to 5 s (default 2 s). Dial it down if you fire off short prompts and want them to land instantly; push it up if you like to pause and think mid-sentence without Millie cutting you off.
4. Paste anywhere
The transcribed text is copied straight to your clipboard. Switch to any app — an editor, a chat window, a notes app — and press ⌘V to paste it in.
Want Millie to type it in for you automatically, even into a window you're not currently looking at? That's a Pro feature.
Tips
- Set a second, one-off continuation hotkey in Preferences to append more dictation to your last transcript instead of starting over.
- Millie works offline after the first run — no internet connection required to dictate.
- Great for vibe coding, fast note-taking, and prompting AI tools without typing a word.
