Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about Millie
Does Millie work offline?
Yes. After the one-time model download on first launch, Millie transcribes entirely on-device — no internet connection needed to dictate. See How It Works for details.
What languages does Millie support?
Millie auto-detects the spoken language by default, or you can pin it to a specific one in Preferences — including English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, and several other European languages.
Does Millie send my voice or text anywhere?
No. Transcription happens locally on your Mac's Neural Engine; your audio and transcripts never leave your device. See the Privacy Policy for the full picture.
What's the difference between the App Store and Pro editions?
Both use the same on-device transcription and copy the transcript to your clipboard. Pro adds live, automatic typing into a window you choose — including one running in the background. See How to Use and How to Use (Pro) side by side, or the comparison table on the download section.
How does the free trial work?
Both editions include a free 7-day trial. The App Store edition continues as a subscription managed by Apple; the Pro edition is a direct purchase from milliepro.com.
Can I change the dictation shortcut?
Yes — the default is Right ⌘, and it's fully customizable in Preferences, along with a separate continuation hotkey for appending to your last transcript.
Millie stops too early (or too late) when I pause. Can I tune that?
Yes. Auto-stop waits for a stretch of silence before ending a take, and the length of that stretch is a slider in Preferences (Auto-stop detection delay, 0.6 s to 5 s, default 2 s). Fast talkers who finish a thought and want it sent right away go low; if you tend to pause mid-sentence to think, go higher so Millie keeps listening. You can also switch auto-stop off entirely and stop with the shortcut instead.
