How to Use Millie Pro
Dictate straight into a target window — no paste required
Everything in the Mac App Store version works the same way in Pro: same shortcut, same on-device transcription, same hands-free auto-start/auto-stop. Pro adds one big thing on top — Millie types the transcript directly where your cursor is, live, as you speak, instead of just copying it to your clipboard. And if you like, it can aim at a specific app instead.
1. Put your cursor where the text should go — and talk
No setup needed. Click into any text field — a terminal, an editor, a chat box, a browser prompt — press the shortcut and start speaking. Pro pastes the transcript right there, at your cursor, in whatever window is in front. If you have auto-start on, you don't even press the shortcut: just begin talking.
2. The text streams in as you talk
Instead of waiting for the full transcript and pasting it at the end, Pro inserts the text progressively, phrase by phrase, so you watch your prompt build up in real time. Prefer one clean paste when you stop? Switch Live typing to Accurate in Preferences.
3. Optional: pin a target app
Want to dictate into a window that isn't in front? Set it as your Target App — press the set-target shortcut while that app is active, or pick it in Preferences. From then on, every time a recording starts Millie brings that app forward and types into it, no matter what you were doing a moment earlier.
4. Talk into one window while working in another
This is what makes Pro genuinely hands-free. With a target app set, you can be browsing, reading, or working in one window while Millie streams your dictation into another — for example, talking your next prompt into a terminal running Claude Code while you keep reading docs in the foreground. Switch or clear the target any time; nothing else needs reconfiguring.
5. Auto-Return — send it without touching the keyboard
Flip on Auto-Return — the toggle right in Millie's panel, or "Automatically press Return after recording stops" in Preferences — and Millie hits Return the moment your dictation ends. Ask an AI assistant a question, fire off a terminal command, or send a chat message — all by voice, start to finish. Pair it with auto-start and auto-stop and a whole conversation with Gemini or ChatGPT never touches the keyboard.
Still want clipboard behavior?
Pro doesn't take anything away — you can still let a transcript land on your clipboard and paste it yourself, exactly like the Mac App Store version, whenever that's what you'd rather do.
